Please note that the deadline for veterinary students only has been extended until 5pm 11th October. New audition for shortlisting will be held at the same London venue on the 14th October. Please note that vet shortlisted candidates must be aware that if they are selected, they will be expected to attend the mandatory training session for vets the following day.

We are looking for students interested in developing their presentation skills with the support of experienced mentors as part of a scholarship programme for the academic year 2017/8.

Medic mentor are now accepting applications from current students for presenter scholarships 2017/8. All successful applicants with be enrolled onto the presenter development programme where they will learn about presentation skills, have the opportunity to present at a large conference, and then receive feedback on their performance. This cycle will happen three times a year, culminating in a Presenter MedEx showcasing your skills. Presenter scholars will be responsible for coordinating and delivering Medic Mentor National Weekends throughout the year to prospective students. We hold National Weekends for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and psychology and events are held in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Nottingham, Stirling and Lancaster. The Presenter Development Programme (PDP)

The presenter development programme

The presenter development programme (PDP) is coordinated by a team of senior presenters and supervised by the Director of Education. Presenter scholars will receive training from our experienced senior presenters with small-group feedback on their National Weekend performance.

At the conclusion of the PDP, all presenters will participate in the Presenter MedEx where they will be given the opportunity to present on an area of their choice in front of friends, family and other presenter scholars. (Think TED talks style!)
As well as gaining presenter experience via the Presenter Development Programme, successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship with a value of £500. They will receive certificates for their role, involvement in national weekend and attendance at pop ups. They will also receive a written reference from the Director of Education on completion of the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

• Currently studying medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or psychology (including year 13 offer holders due to start University in September 2017).
• Able to commit to audition, training and national weekend dates.
• Please note that scholars will not be selected based on their year of study or academic ability, but their willingness to learn and improve vital presentation skills that will ultimately make them excellent future doctors.

The Application Process

Students interested in applying to become a presenter scholar must complete the appropriate application form by the deadline 5pm on August 18th 2017.
Applications will then be shortlisted for auditions. Successful candidates at this stage will be notified by Sunday 27th August 2017. Auditions will then take place on Saturday and Sunday September 16th and 17th. Applicants will be invited to attend on Saturday or Sunday and will deliver a presentation on either “A day in the life of a medical student” or “my journey into medicine.” Presentations will be delivered in front of a panel and scored accordingly. Successful candidates will be notified by Monday September 25th 2017.

I'm not available for all the training and event dates, can I still apply?
Unfortunately, not, attendance at the training dates is compulsory. However, there are other opportunities for you get involved in Medic Mentor and national weekend events. Create a free online account at medicmentor.co.uk, check out the regional mentor roles and look out for the ‘upcoming opportunities” emails sent by the communications team.
I'm not available for all the training and event dates, can I still apply?
Yes, all students will need a successful audition to join the presenter development programme and receive the scholarship.
I'm a Doctor/Vet/Dentist/Psychologist, can I apply?
The presenter development programme and scholarships are designed for our student members. However, there are many opportunities available for our doctors, dentists, vets and psychologists, create an online account at medicmentor.co.uk and check out the medi and regional mentor roles and look out for the ‘upcoming opportunities” emails sent by the communications team.
How many scholarships are available?
There are 44 presenter scholarships available in total for 2017/8.
15 for medical students
