Your Healthcare Career starts here

National healthcare weekend

National Healthcare Weekend is made up of 2 important days of conferences and lectures. There are separate events for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.  Day 2 is only for students who want to become doctors.  Students can choose to attend 1 day or both days.

New Medic Mentor students are encouraged to take the first step by attending the weekend and develop a strong foundation knowledge of the UCAS process and what will be expected of them.  Our students benefit from ongoing mentoring following the conference.

DAY 1 THE INSIGHT CONFERENCES

This is a high energy conference with an abundance of speakers delivering talks on important insights into careers in medicine, and dentistry. For most students, it confirms their decision regarding which career path to take, and insight into the career is a scored component of each UCAS application process.

It is ideal for students in years 10-12 or S3-S5. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate – usually making up half of the audience! The dynamic nature of the conference means that the course programme and speakers will be different at each event.

However, every conference offers a wealth of information and experiences from a range of Medic Mentors from different backgrounds, whilst ensuring that essential content is covered during the programme.

Day 2 Medical UCAS Lecture

Day 2 also known as the UCAS lectures, will provide a detailed overview of the UCAS application process itself. This includes personal statements, competition ratios, subject choices, entrance exams, funding and interviews. This is the most comprehensive UCAS lecture available for students interested in applying to medical or dental school. It is an excellent way to gain accurate and complete knowledge of how you need to best prepare for the UCAS application itself, and starting early will give you an advantage. Suitable for students in year 10-12 and S3-S5.

Timings

There are separate events for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary.  The Day 2 lectures are for aspiring doctors only because the UCAS lectures for dentistry and veterinary are already incorporated into the Summer School Programmes.

Timings for both days:

Registration starts at 10am.  Course starts are 10.30am.  The course finishes at 4.30pm followed by an optional question and answer session until 5pm.  There are breaks at several points in the day which you can make a note of from the sample programmes provided on this page to download.

Please note that these are only sample programmes and the final programme will be emailed out to delegates 1 week prior to the course start date.

Tickets

Please note that we do not post tickets because people often lose them ahead of the conference.  Please bring a copy of your order confirmation which will be emailed to you automatically once you have registered for your places online.

You will then receive a more detailed email about exact lecture theatres, parking etc. from admin roughly 2 weeks prior to the course start date as soon as our venues have completed their IT testing of the rooms.

REGISTRATION

This conference is essential for any serious applicant and will help those considering a career in medicine/dentistry/veterinary to make an informed career decision.  If you would like some advice before you register give us a ring on the Mentor Helpline number 01524 389772.
