What is the magazine?

Mentor magazine is a national print and online publication dedicated to applying healthcare students. The magazine contains wider reading to inform and inspire aspiring medical, veterinary and dental students and their university counterparts.

Wider reading is an essential component in your preparation for a university application.

This multidisciplinary publication will provide you with the latest insights and topical issues in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, and highlight the transferable skills and universal themes that unite these healthcare professions.

It will help you affirm your career choice. And most of all, it will inspire and fuel your interest and passion for healthcare.

To set you apart from the crowd, you can become a contributor as an applying medical, dental or veterinary student. You will receive first-class mentoring on your written communication and work towards publishing your original article or artwork in our national magazine.

Mentor accepts contributions for artwork from applying students. If this interests you, please read the information provided on the Medic Mentor National Art Competition under the ‘art and essay competition’ tab.

What are the aims of the magazine?

Our aim is to inspire and inform applying healthcare students on the latest topical issues in the medical, veterinary and dentistry professions.

This will prepare students for their university application and contribute to their ongoing studies.

We aim to challenge readers’ opinions and enable them to question the information pertaining to healthcare that they may face in the wider media.

Using reflections and insights from successful applicants and current university students, we aim to share inspiration on healthcare and university applications.

We also provide an invaluable platform for applying healthcare students to publish their own articles or artwork. Students receive expert mentoring from our editorial team to produce articles that are of a high standard to be published in our national magazine. It is an opportunity for students to publish their original work and to share reflections, experiences and wider reading to inspire other students in the run up to and during their application process.

What do you receive with your subscription?

Mentor is a quarterly print anthology that is written by Medic Mentor university scholars, our team of chief mentors and outstanding qualified doctors, veterinarians and dentists, and by applying healthcare students. It will cover the latest wider reading in the medical, veterinary and dentistry professions and the ‘One Health’ approach that unites these healthcare disciplines. We will also publish the winner of the national essay competition for applying students and will publish the winning artwork entry on the front cover.

In between each of the printed quarterly publications, we also release our smaller online issues every month straight to your inbox! These include even more articles and artwork to challenge and inspire our readers.
