Celebrating Success Amongst our current and future healthcare leaders

Join us on the 2nd December to network with our Special Guests and meet our new Scholars!

Awards: Medic Mentor Scholarships, Professional Awards and School Society Leaders

We are a national mentoring organisation for healthcare students and professionals. We work with medics, dentists, vets, psychologists, biomedical scientists and nurses. We currently have roughly 8000 members, and work alongside, universities, Royal Colleges, trade unions and similar organisations to deliver effective mentoring programmes for our members, which has already shown to greatly improve their wellbeing, professional development and career satisfaction.

We are a social enterprise, so we are entirely self-funded and we do this by running national careers events for aspiring school students. To the end, we work with over 800 schools in the UK and teach roughly 6000 students each year. We reinvest proceeds back into our mentoring initiatives to support our healthcare colleagues.

This year we have invested £60,000 in the form of 90 scholarships for students at university studying medicine, dentistry, vet med and psychology. The Awards Evening showcases and encourages talented and aspiring individuals who are the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Keynote Speaker: Mr Anthony Roberts, Director of Leadership and Innovation for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Anthony is responsible for the delivery of the strategic ambition to become a Royal College with leadership and innovation at its heart. Leadership work includes the implementation of a programme to support the next generation of veterinary leaders and develop leadership opportunities across the veterinary professions, and the completion of the RCVS governance review to ensure that we are an effective and efficient organisation, better able to lead the profession and serve the needs of the public.

Innovation incorporates the development of initiatives to ensure the veterinary professions are at the centre of innovation in the animal health sector, to position the professions as open to innovation, and to ensure the RCVS serves to foster innovation whilst continuing to protect animal health and welfare.

Anthony also leads the development and delivery of a programme of work to prepare the College and the profession for the impact of Brexit and the implementation of evidence-based measures to drive the transition to a supportive ‘learning-culture’ in the veterinary professions.

What is the Medical Leadership Programme?

The School Ambassador Programme is open to secondary school students in all years. It is the only national medical leadership programme for aspiring doctors, dentists and vets.  The programme provides students with 3 additional teaching days (1 Sunday per term) to help students develop important transferable skills and knowledge that will best prepare them for their future careers.  It also gives students extra opportunities to work with a variety of doctors, vets and dentists throughout the year.  This ensures that we can provide you with ongoing face-to-face mentoring to help you start thinking and acting like medical students in time for your interviews in Year 13 and S6.

Applying for Funded Places

There are 2 ways to enter the Medical Leadership Programme.  You can apply for a funded place as a School Ambassador, or enrol onto the Medic Mentor Residential Summer School for the maximum level of support.

Medic Mentor provide 6 funded places per school (3 for year 10-12/S3-S5 and 3 for year 13/S6).  These School Ambassador positions are awarded based on a competitive application from individual students. There is no deadline for the application, but as soon as we receive a sufficient number of high quality applications to fulfil the places at your school, applications for students at your school will close.  The online application form can be found at the link below.
