Any medical school offer holder who has created a free MedSoc UK Student Portal is eligible to apply by completing an online application.  These will have to pass a shortlist first and then be invited to an interview. One way to guarantee a scholarship interview is to complete the Medical Gold Awards Programme.  This will automatically qualify students for a scholarship interview, without the need to submit a written application for shortlisting first.  The Scholarship award will be based entirely on interview performance.

Students must hold at least 1 medical school offer to study at any medical school in the UK, in order to apply.

As this is an award based on a student’s potential, willingness to learn and make a difference, we do not take academic grades or means testing criteria into consideration.  The awards will be made on a student’s merit, which will be assessed at interview only.  Students will be asked a series of interview questions, about their personal experiences, and they will be expected to reflect and answer these in detail.  We also want an insight into your personality, leadership ability and your eagerness to make a difference through medical education and mentoring.  We are looking for ambassador role models and students who want to make a significant difference to the field of medicine in the future.

The scholarship is not a grant, it is an academic and pastoral programme that rewards students for their engagement and self-development.  Medical students on the scholarship programme have exclusive mentoring, wellbeing and additional learning opportunities that are not readily available to other medical students.  They will have the opportunity to lead, present, engage in research and participate in national impactful medical education projects that expand their skillset far beyond that of a regular graduate. For this very reason, Scholars go on to get some of the most competitive jobs when they graduate because they have carefully cultivated an impressive array of achievements under the guidance and support of experienced mentors, such as the Presidents and the Chiefs.

The scholarship programme has been carefully designed to work around a medical degree.  There is a minimum amount of time needed to commit to the programme that includes attending 3 teaching days across a year, 2 appraisals with a scholarship supervisor and extra work on an educational project. We anticipate that educational projects will require an additional 8 hours of work per month, that can be completed flexibly around studies. The more time that scholars put into their projects, the more that they will benefit, resulting in incredible achievements that make them shine as doctors when they graduate and apply for competitive posts.
