What a fantastic poster! I love the use of Figure 1 and 2 and the catchy phrase ‘scan, track, trace’. Comparing COVID-19 to how Germany tackled the same pandemic and also looking back on past pandemics is a great way of making sure we do not make the same mistakes twice.
Question:
What evidence do you have that heat scanners will be effective?
It was a concern that we had initially, however, when we were researching into each option, we came across a study conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. It looked directly into the ability of thermal screening in identifying people with COVID-19. It found that the process had a success rate of 58%. Although this is around half, this is a considerable reduction in the transmission if implemented in the ways discussed in the poster. When critically appraising the study, we found that it was not peer-reviewed and this does reduce the reliability of the study. However, in a pandemic, it is important that any potentially useful information is released quickly and so thermal scanning could be an opportunity to significantly cut down the transmission rate in the UK
