Thank you for giving your time and making this wonderful podcast!
What tips would you give to Yr13s preparing for their scholarship interview?
Hi Namrata, Thankyou so much for your question! Well a top tip would be to attend the medical leadership programme day on scholarships and the scholarship interview (exact date tbc). But we are essentially looking for future scholars who are passionate about making a difference, love everything medic mentor and want to achieve beyond what they thought possible. The best aspiring scholars come to the interview with amazing ideas for medic mentor that they want to make happen!
Thank you!
Hi guys thanks so much for this podcast, it’s made lockdown life much more bearable!
I just had a question about the scholarship selection process: if you were as actively involved with Medic Mentor as you could be, but were unfortunately not able to attend the summer school, would this be a disadvantageous situation that could hold you back from a scholarship interview?
Hi Mez, thank you for your comment! Not at all, not all of our students will attend summer school-that is an informed choice that you make if it is right for you.
Attending or not attending summer school will have no impact on you becoming a scholar. The best ways to engage with Medic Mentor are through the fully-funded medical leadership programme, our fundraising campaign for the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund, writing an article for the Mentor magazine, listening to the blogs, attending the virtual medical society meetings, presenting at the ‘Get into medicine’ conferences, the essay competition, the medical schools society and study guides. The possibilities are endless! The more you do as an aspiring student with Medic Mentor, the more you will achieve as a scholar and that is why this is an important determining factor in selecting our scholarship students!
Just attending the summer school itself is not enough to make you scholarship worthy, however most of our summer school students are naturally the most committed and hardworking students in Medic Mentor and because we have an opportunity to spend more time with them, and they too have protected time to spend with many of our scholarship students they end up being more proactive about getting fast-tracked for scholarship interviews. As a Chief Mentor I have fast tracked both summer school and non-summer school students but my summer school list is greater – not because they have attended summer school (because I don’t recommend every summer school student), but because they have impressed me the most and they are very high calibre of students who do go on to get multiple offers.
